Running for Pat

April 21, 2012 - Saturday

Matt, Jayna, and Shaylin before the Kids Run
Back in 2010, our friends Anthony and Mandy talked us into doing Pat's Run in Tempe.  It was the first time we'd run in a race like that.  I (Matt) ran cross country and track in high school, but that was a LONG time ago and was a lot different.  Click here to see the blog post that we wrote after that run.

We were excited to do Pat's Run again this year.  We were even more excited that Shaylin was old enough to run the kids run.  The main race is 4.2 miles and the kids run is .42 miles - Pat Tillman's # was 42.  It's in Tempe and you get to finish at the 42 yard line in the football stadium.  It's fun, but it's crazy.  There were over 23,000 people that completed the race, so there's a ton of people to weave around and dodge as you're running.  Jayna says that helped her run faster.  Both Jayna and I did a little better than we expected - I got a time of 30:02 (7:09 mile pace) and she got 37:24 (8:55 mile pace).

Shaylin builds up her endurance by running around our house, so she did great during the run.  She was able to run for about half of the total distance, alternating between running and walking.  I ran with her and she had fun trying to catch me off guard when she'd start running really fast after walking for a little bit.  The Kids Run finished at the 42 yard line of the football stadium too, but it wasn't timed.

Here's a list of the races we've run along with the times.  Clicking on the race will take you to the blog post we wrote about it.
