Bittersweet Utah Trip

In February we got the very sad news that Dave Trump's, one of our best friends, dad had passed away after battling Lou Gehrig's disease for several years. Dave and Ashley actually moved back to Utah to live with his parents several years ago after finding out that his dad had the disease. They are such loving and selfless people. Even though we were very sad to see them go when they left AZ to move back to UT, we've always been impressed by their willingness to drop everything and move back to take care of his dad as his condition worsened.

We made arrangements to go up to Utah for the funeral. We had originally planned on driving but because of some snow storms forecasted for Southern Utah the day we were supposed to be driving, Matt's parents were nice enough to get us some plane tickets using some frequent flier miles. It worked out well because we were able to spend some extra time up there with Dave and Ashley and with Matt's parents.

It was a really good funeral (as good as funerals can be, anyway) and we left really wanting to be better people. It was amazing to hear of the great man that Dave's dad was and of the big heart that he had. Most of Dave's siblings spoke and Dave gave an excellent talk about standing still and knowing that the Lord will provide a way through all of life's trials.

We didn't take any of our own pictures at the funeral, but we did take a bunch of pictures during the rest of the trip, so the rest of this post and the next will be the random pictures we took while we were there. Most of the pictures were taken at Matt's parents house.

The day we were at the funeral, the girls got to go to the nearby Dinosaur museum with Matt's parents. They got some cute pictures and had a lot of fun walking around the museum.

Matt's parents said that Shaylin was looking for something to ride the whole time...

And when they found this dinosaur Shaylin climbed on and put her hand up in the air. Matt couldn't be prouder...

Matt's parents were nice enough to get us a Wii and Wii Fit as an early combined birthday present. Big thanks to them. We had a ton of fun playing it while we were up in Utah and have loved having it since we got home. Here's Jayna playing the hula hoop game...

Here's Shaylin getting ready to play. She quickly learned how use the remote to navigate through all the menus and pick her character all by herself.

Matt's parents invited all of Matt's cousins that are up at BYU over for Sunday night dinner. We had a lot of fun catching up with everyone and even spent some time watching some old home videos that had a bunch of the cousins in them. Here's a picture of most of us around the table...

You know what they say, "Birds of a feather flock together." We try to surround ourselves with good people and you guys are the cream of the crop!

We were so honored to have you come clear from AZ to be a shoulder to cry on and I think we did plenty of that! Thanks so much for always being there for us and showing how much our friendship means through actions. It means more than you know! Love you!
